1976

Las Américas Hotels Group was born from the visionary dream of Alberto Araújo Merlano, together with his partner Rafael Cepeda Torres, nearly 50 years ago, with the founding of Hotel Capilla del Mar in beautiful Cartagena de Indias. The hotel opened in 1976 with 206 rooms facing the Caribbean Sea.
From its opening, it became a benchmark in the city’s tourism landscape. Today, it continues to offer distinctive stays where guests enjoy Cartagena Más Cerca.
1994

With the desire to offer more lodging options and services, we inaugurated Hotel Las Américas in the North Zone of Cartagena. Today, it is known as Hotel Las Américas Casa de Playa, located in front of 400 meters of beachfront, with 251 rooms filled with the colors and charm of the Colombian Caribbean.
This milestone also brought the creation of El Club del Capitán Estrella, featuring 12 fun characters and countless attractions, activities, and surprises — a world of adventures for children.
1995

We created the Proboquilla Foundation (Fundación Promotora del Desarrollo de La Boquilla) with the purpose of promoting comprehensive development for families in vulnerable situations in the community of La Boquilla and its surrounding areas.
Its area of influence includes the rural communities of La Boquilla, Tierra Baja, Puerto Rey, Manzanillo del Mar, and Zapatero.
2005

In 2004, we inaugurated the first phase of the Las Américas Convention & Exhibition Center. Through several development stages, we expanded our capacity to more than 7,000 m² of flexible space, designed to inspire extraordinary events.

2009

We created the Geniales Foundation, together with a distinguished group of city leaders, dedicated to fostering talent development and character formation — building happier and more prosperous individuals.
2011

We inaugurated Hotel Las Américas Torre del Mar with 279 rooms, where modern design and comfort come together. This expansion consolidated Hotel Las Américas Cartagena de Indias with 530 rooms and multiple amenities and services.
With Torre del Mar, we also opened our first spa, Spa Las Américas, featuring a hydrotherapy circuit and the latest treatments and massages for relaxation and revitalization.
2012

We celebrated the grand opening of our Erre Restaurant by Ramón Freixa, led by the renowned Michelin two-star chef from Madrid, who made Cartagena his second home.
Today, guests can enjoy top-level gastronomic experiences guided by Ramón Freixa’s signature.
2016

Seeking to expand our horizons and serve new markets, we opened our first hotel outside Colombia in the heart of Latin America: Hotel Las Américas Golden Tower Panama, offering 285 comfortable rooms with stunning panoramic views of the city — a hotel where you can enjoy golden moments in Panama’s business epicenter.
2018

We expanded into a beautiful region near Medellín, Llanogrande, where we introduced a new business model: hotel advisory, management, and marketing services. This began with Hotel Lagoon Llanogrande, a place surrounded by nature that inspires unforgettable stays.

2024

We continued our growth with the opening of Hotel Ciela Coveñas, located on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. Featuring 99 beachfront rooms, it invites guests to enjoy the most beautiful seaside sunsets and unforgettable moments.
2025

In 2025, we began the year with the commercialization of the Herencia Hotel and Guest Houses in Armenia, where our visitors are able to savor the Colombian Coffee Region.
